The Calgary Police Half Marathon is April 26, and registration is still available. The half-marathon is $60 and you have to register in person at the Tech Shop. About 50 in person spots are available. If you miss out, wait until the week before the event as people start bailing.
Pick up the January/February issue of Canadian Running magazine for a couple pages on the Powderface 42 (registration opens January 18). Gord Hobbins of Gord's Running Store is interviewed for the Winter Running Guide story. There are some good book reviews, and an interview with the director of Saint Ralph. If you haven't, get a subscription to keep that magazine viable.
The Calgary Women's Race is looking for a new race director. You would get some assistance from the Calgary Roadrunners Club, so you wouldn't be entirely on your own. You could co-direct with someone else. Contact the CRR for more details.
Cochrane's race weekend in June, aka Footstock, has opted out of the full marathon for 2009. Their longest distance will now be the half marathon, which is run mostly on the shale pathways near the Bwo River. The small-town hospitality is great, and the 50 people who ran the marathon will still enjoy the shorter distance.

2009 race entry deadlines
Here are some useful deadlines for some upcoming road races.
The Frozen Ass 50 takes place on Feb 16, has a $30 fee until February 7 and then goes up to $50. The event is capped at 125 people who will run to Chestermere and back (50km).
The St. Patrick's Day 10k is March 15th, and registration is $35 until January 14th and $40 or $45 afterwards. Around 1200 are expected to complete the 5k or 10k course.
The Glencoe Icebreaker 10k runs April 5, but you need to pick up at entry form at the Glencoe Club or the Tech Shop starting Jan 7 and enter in person at the Glencoe Club Sports Office on January 19th at 5:30am.

Almost 50,000 people will run the Bloomsday 12k in Spokane, Washington on May 3rd. Online entry is available and entry is $15.
The Vancouver Marathon is also May 3 and the earliest deadline was December 15th. The marathon is now $100, the half is $70 and the 8K is $35. Pay before March 20 or the marathon increases to $125.
The Ottawa Race Weekend Marathon, half, 10k and 5k are May 23 and 24th. Registration for the full is $75 and the 10k is $30 until February 15th.
The Calgary Marathon is May 31, and the earliest bird entry fee deadline is January 30th. You save $5 to $15 if you can register before then. Almost 800 people have already signed up for the marathon, half, 10k or Timbits marathon. The full marathon is $75, rises to $90 in February, and $120 on race weekend.
The Banff-Jasper Relay is June 6th, and the entry fee has just gone up to $1,351.50! Really. It's split up over your relay team though, so it's not so bad.
The Powderface 42 is a trail marathon that takes place near Bragg Creek on July 12. Registration starts January 18.
Online registration starts today for the 125km Canadian Death Race, August 1-3. Entry is $250 until March 1.
Calgary's first Ironman 70.3 is the same weekend. Entry is also $250, and registration is still available. The race is capped at 1700 entries.
